From a Kelantan stage to a national icon
Nora Ariffin burst onto the Malaysian scene as champion of Bintang HMI in 1991. Her 1994 debut album Sandiwara, carried by the evergreen hit Di Persimpangan Dilema, went multi-platinum and made her a household name across Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.
Across three decades she has shaped the Malaysian balada, working closely with her late husband, composer Johan Nawawi, whose songbook she continues to champion today.
In 2021 she was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Mahkota Wilayah by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, carrying the title Datuk. In December 2024 she performed her first-ever solo concert, Hanya Satu.
